Privacy & Cookies

How we collect, use and protect personal information submitted through this website, and how the maps, cookies and local storage on this site work.

Who we are

West Kirby Museum is the data controller for personal information collected through this website. You can contact us using the group visit booking form, the research enquiry form, by emailing info@westkirbymuseum.co.uk, or by writing to West Kirby Museum, St Bridget's Centre, St Bridget's Lane, West Kirby, Wirral, CH48 3JT.

Information we collect

When you submit the group visit booking form or the research enquiry form, we collect your name, email address, and the details you provide — for example a preferred visit date and group size, or a research topic and message. Web3Forms, which delivers both forms to us, may also process limited technical information such as an IP address and server logs, in order to deliver the message and prevent abuse.

Why we use it

We use your information to receive, manage and reply to your booking or enquiry, keep appropriate correspondence records, and protect our forms from spam and misuse. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: operating the museum, arranging visits, responding to research enquiries, and keeping our website secure. Where your message asks us to take steps before entering into an agreement — for example arranging a group visit — that may also be our lawful basis.

We do not add your details to a marketing list, sell them, or use them for automated decision-making or profiling.

Who receives your information

Authorised museum volunteers may access submissions where needed to respond. Both forms are delivered using Web3Forms, which acts as a service provider on our behalf. Web3Forms says it forwards submissions without storing their contents, although limited server logs may be retained for up to two months. Its servers are in the United States and its operator is based in India, so information may be processed outside the UK. We only use service providers where appropriate data-protection arrangements are in place.

How long we keep it

We normally retain booking and enquiry correspondence for up to 12 months after the matter is resolved. We may keep it longer where reasonably necessary for an ongoing research request, booking, complaint, legal obligation, or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims. We then securely delete it.

Your choices and rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access to, correction or deletion of your personal information; object to or restrict its use; or ask for a portable copy. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

Providing your name, email address and message is necessary if you want us to respond to a booking or enquiry. If you do not provide them, we cannot reply.

Cookies and local storage

This website does not use analytics, advertising or social-media tracking cookies. It stores one item, wkm-cookie-choice, in your browser's local storage, solely to remember whether you accepted or rejected non-essential embedded content. Your choice does not enable any tracking and stays on your device until you clear your browser data. You can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of any page.

Google Maps

Several pages, including Visit and the footer of every page, can show an embedded Google Map of the museum's location. These maps do not load — and Google does not set any cookies — until you either accept non-essential content through the cookie prompt, or press "Show map" on that specific embed. If you choose "Essential only", or don't interact with an embed, the map stays hidden and nothing is sent to Google. Google's own privacy policy applies once a map has loaded.

Search

The search feature on this site (the magnifying-glass icon in the header) runs entirely in your browser against a static index of the site's pages. It does not use cookies, does not send your search terms anywhere, and does not collect any personal data.

Changes to this notice

We will update this page if our website, suppliers, or use of personal information changes. Please check the date at the top for the latest version.
